About our practice

A. A. Baker Optometrists was established in 1952 by Arthur Baker. The practice is now owned and run by his son, David, who qualified as an optometrist in 1987. 

David is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM). He is now a Senior Court Assistant of the WCSM. Locally he serves on the Enfield Community Education Provider Network (CEPN) on behalf of Barnet, Camden, Enfield and Haringey Local Optical Committee.

Combining his two passions of optometry and writing, he has written the books ‘How Glasses Caught A Killer: and other stories of how optics changed the world' and 'Window of the Soul: A Brief Exploration of the Human Eye'. The latter was nominated for the 2019 Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize. He continues to write articles for optical, lifestyle and sports magazines. He won the 2010 Frank Norville Media Prize for ‘most interesting new contributor to optical journals’.

He has over 30 years of experience in optometry, which has allowed him to develop a reputation as a trusted local optometrist in London.
